You have been working on things in therapy, but the anxiety or the low mood still is not lifting. Or your child’s doctor has mentioned medication and you want a specialist to look at the whole picture first. Gina Ashman evaluates whether medication makes sense, and if it does, manages it with you over time, by secure video anywhere in North Carolina.
To book with Gina, contact us or check your insurance first. Gina provides psychiatric evaluation and medication management in North Carolina by secure video, and works alongside our individual therapy team. We are licensed in North Carolina, Florida, New Jersey, Colorado and eight more states (full list below).
Gina Ashman, MSN, MHA, PMHNP-BC

Gina is a board-certified psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner with more than 30 years of nursing experience and an extensive background in behavioral and mental health care. She sees children, teens and adults for psychiatric evaluation and medication management in North Carolina.
Gina believes good psychiatric care starts with listening. She takes time to understand each person’s history, experiences and goals, and builds a treatment plan with you rather than for you. Her approach is compassionate, collaborative and individualized.

What an Appointment With Gina Involves
The initial psychiatric evaluation
The first appointment is the longest. Gina goes through your history, your current symptoms, anything you already take, and what has or has not worked before. By the end you will know whether she thinks medication would help, what she would suggest and why, and what the alternatives are. Deciding not to start medication is a legitimate outcome of an evaluation.
Follow-ups
Follow-ups focus on how the medication is actually working: what has changed, any side effects, and whether the dose or the medication itself should change. How often you meet depends on where you are in treatment; it is more frequent at the start and less once things are stable.
ADHD
For ADHD, we prescribe non-stimulant medications only. We do not prescribe stimulants. If you are looking for stimulant medication, we will tell you that on the first call rather than after an evaluation.
Working Alongside Your Therapist
Medication tends to work best alongside therapy, not instead of it. Because Gina works inside the same practice as our North Carolina therapists, she can coordinate with your therapist here, with your permission, so the two parts of your treatment are not pulling in different directions. If you already have a therapist elsewhere, that is fine too.
Telehealth Across North Carolina
Gina sees all clients by secure video, anywhere in North Carolina, from Cary, Raleigh and Durham to Charlotte, Wilmington and the mountains. You need to be physically in North Carolina during the appointment. There are no in-person psychiatry appointments, including at our Cary office. Some medications carry additional requirements for remote prescribing, and the rules have changed several times in recent years.
Insurance and Fees
Gina’s psychiatry visits are in network or in process with Aetna, Cigna, Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina and Tricare East, and we verify your plan before your first visit. We do not take Medicare or Medicaid. Send us your insurance details and we will check your coverage free before the first appointment.
If you would rather pay privately, an initial psychiatric evaluation is $350 and each follow-up is $250. We accept HSA and FSA cards, and we provide a superbill you can submit if your plan has out-of-network benefits.
